Instead, you would want to first verify if the school is indeed duly accredited by the state. As it is a career that is under close supervision by the state since it touches on healthcare, it should only make sense that the school be complying with the regulations and policies imposed.
This shouldn’t be surprising, really. After all, you will be dealing with patients. Even if you are not going to have the same level of function as a doctor or a nurse, nursing assistants are nonetheless an important part of the healthcare team. CNAs are the ones that the nurses and doctors turn to for the patient’s status update. You will have to attend to the patient when the doctors aren’t around, helping them be comfortable in their room, helping them move around, take a shower, sit up or stand from the bed, and more. You will also be in charge of keeping the patient’s room as well. From making the bed, ensuring that the necessary equipment are running well, and basically, just looking out for the general welfare of the patient.
If, after seeing that list of duties (and that’s not even all of it), you still feel it is the perfect career for you, then go ahead and get started on preparing your requirements. The most basic of them would be your high school diploma. Applicants for CNA classes in Oklahoma, as with everywhere else in the rest of the country, should be at least 18 years of age. Should you not have a high school diploma, the GED should suffice.
Apart from that, you should also make that quick trip to your doctor so you can get your clean bill of health. The state will be very particular about this because, hey, you will be dealing with sick people after all. Their main purpose for staying at the hospital is to get medication, not to catch another illness to worry about. It’s not about you, it’s about the patient’s welfare, so don’t feel offended that your employer is requiring your clean bill of health from your doctor.
Another requirement you should not forget is your certification from the cops that you have not been convicted of any felony related to the healthcare service. Again, it’s about the patient’s welfare, so complete these requirements and you should have a hassle-free enrollment for your CNA classes in Oklahoma.
